An erect thornless blackberry similar to Arapaho with larger fruit and seed, ripening 15 days later than Arapaho. Resists orange rust. Fruits are sweet when ripe. Very productive. Tip new canes at 42" during growing season. The newest thornless blackberry introduction from U of AR breeding program. Selected because of its great flavor, good yield and very large fruit. Six week ripening period. Space 5' apart in 5' wide rows. For one plant space plant in a 6' circle. Zone 6-8.
The earliest ripening thornless variety. Lots more to pick at once because it ripens its fruit in a 4 week period. Can be planted farther south. Arapaho needs only 400-500 chill hours.(hours with temperatures below 45 degrees F) Plant Patent # 8510. The outstanding characteristics of Arapaho are its thornless, erect, self supporting canes, good fruit quality, earliness of ripening and its ability to establish a full fruiting row quickly. Zone 6-8.
Extremely large berry, 10 fill a half-pint container. The best quality and best firmness of all varieties. Long harvest season of 6 weeks. Heavy producer. 1996 Univ. of Arkansas introduction. Thorny bush. Kiowa is a low chilling variety, probably as low as 200 hours. Native Space 5' circle or 5' apart in 5' wide beds. Zones 6-9. Plant Patent #9861
This unique type of blackberry fruits on current season canes (primo canes) in late summer. Also they fruit on second season canes (floricanes) as most blackberries do. So this new variety is like everbearing raspberries.
Prime-Jan resulted from a cross of Ark. 1836 and Arapaho. The crosses were made in 1994 at the university of Arkansas Fruit Substation, Clarksville.
Average floricane berry weight of Prime-Jan ranged from 3.7 to 6.4 g.
Prime-Jan's performance in Oregon was exceptional compared to Arkansas. Though good yields were harvested from both locations, some locations in OR yielded 5 times the weight in berries compared to Arkansas. The differences in yield were attributed to high summer temperatures at bloom time in Arkansas. Sweetness of fruits is comparable to Arapaho. Fruits on new canes ripen around September till frost.
Canes of Prime-Jan are thorny and erect. Japanese beetles can damage summer flowers. Zone 6 -7. Space 5' circle. (Prime-Jan is a trade marked plant)
Semi-erect vigorous productive blackberry, that needs no staking. The story behind the plant deserves telling. Bill Schultz of the North American Fruit Explorers, upon visiting an experimental station in WA state, was told of a two-acre test plot of seedling thornless blackberries that were going to be removed. He sampled the whole 2 acres and found one seedling outstanding in the field. He sent a sample of the plant to Edible Landscaping. We've had it at the nursery for years an it has become a favorite of visitors. It has a very long period of ripening and fruits for 6-8 weeks with lots of berries at every picking. Space 5' apart in 5' wide rows or 6' circle for one plant. Zones 6-8.

Due to import restrictions we are unable to ship Mushroom Logs to CA...
We send an oak log 42" long ready to transform, when conditions are right, into shiitake mushrooms. The log continues fruiting for 4 years. Logs can be completely covered with shiitake. Easy growing instructions are sent with the log. Basically the log is placed in dappled shade, watered regularly, and nature does the rest. It should be noted Shiitake logs are not like growing a plant. They will not produce unless they have ideal conditions. Logs have fruited before they are ever delivered to us, so we know they are viable. Logs will not fruit if to cold or to hot. Care guide included. Due to the unpredictability of mushrooms and the variable climatic conditions, we make no guarantee as to successful crops and do not replace logs that perform poorly.
Due to import restrictions we are unable to ship Palms to CA...
With their unusual form and growth habit, palms are unlike any other plants in the world. Whether it is coconut palms on a south Pacific island, date palms along the Nile or a row of Cabbage Palmettos lining a street in Savannah, there is something special and regal about these plants.
Mature palmetto has long sprays of attractive black berries. In late winter mockingbirds and brown thrasher lay claim to them and gobble down three of four at a time before flying off.
Palm seedlings look like pleated grass. Young palm plants make excellent houseplants until they are large enough to plant outside.
(Trachycarpus fortunel) is perhaps the hardiest of the trunked palms. It forms a slender trunk and can reach 40' when mature and can fit into narrow spaces, making it suitable for even a small garden. Windmill palm is one of the most commonly available palms and is considered hardy to about -5 degrees F. If you want to try a palm in your garden, I suggest you start with the hardiest ones: windmill palm or palmetto. The ideal spot for a palm in your garden will have some protection from winter winds. This doesn't matter as much on the coast, but it can be important in say north GA.
The temperatures given regarding cold hardiness are for general guidelines only. Older specimens can survive lower temps than younger ones. A palm that can survive 5 degrees F. for a few hours cannot survive for several days like that. Young palms are more susceptible to cold than older specimens, so don't hesitate to give them some winter protection. (not an edible palm) Zone 7.
(Crocus sativus) This fall-bloomer has been cultivated since the ancient times as a valuable spice and color agent. Flowers grow 4" high and appear in October to November. Use them under deciduous trees, along walkways, beneath shrubbery, on banks, and in rock gardens. Need good drainage or bulbs will rot. Plant 3"-4" deep (from top of corm), 6" apart. Japanese apricot or Ume fruits are eaten raw, candied, boiled, preserved in sugar, pickled in salt and dried, or made into a liqueur. The pulp is also used in the preparation of ume-bishio, a sour jam. Kay Gray. A white grape bred by Elmer Swenson in Osceola, Wisconsin. Found almost by accident. One year, Mr. Swenson was ill and didn't spray his vineyard. One seedling vine stood out for it's health and freedom from downy mildew. The clusters and berries are many, with a labrusca flavor. Flavor varies with climate, ranging from a rather ordinary labrusca to a pleasant fruity flavor depending on where it is grown. In addition to the good resistance to disease, the vine has withstood -42 degrees F without damage. The vines are vigorous. Vines can be trained to cordons with three bud spurs, or to canes to insure more crop. Liked by organic growers, the clusters are pleasant to eat.
Kay Grey is a cross between MN 78 and Golden Muscat.
